Well the competition season is back as of this weekend past with the Fundy Open 2006 being the 1st tournament of 2006 in the Atlantic Fencing League. Despite some super frigid weather the competiton was well attended with the bulk of the fencers being in the under 17 age category. This is to be expected as they are in the full swing of preparations for selection to the team that we will be sending to the 2007 Canada Winter Games next March. It's hard to believe how quickly the time goes by between Games.
I'm so glad that D actually fenced this time in Open Epee, and did super for his first time back after about 2 1/2 years away from the sport. I think he ended up in the top 10 (out of 25). I think he's pretty pleased with that result which should hopefully help him motivate to train more. And I did pretty well in the Open Foil competition, coming in 6th after the pools and ended up 7th out of 28 in the overall Open. The best part is that I'm earning my way into the Open/Men's Super pool (top 8) consistently now, so i just have to work harder at winning more of those tough bouts. Then I took 1st out of 10 in the Women's Foil competition. That Women's gold medal match was a tough one, providing the spectators with a bit of excitement and myself with more than a bit of pressure. The final score was 15-13 and those last two points I scored were ugly. Personally, I felt I could have fenced much better and I have some ideas of what needs to be worked on.
Well, two weeks from now is the UNB Shield so let's see if I can change up for that.
