Well hello folks,
Yes, I'm back. The last few months have been a challenge for me. Lots of crazy stuff happening in my life, however, that's neither here nor there. I do expect to get back into the groove of blogging at regular intervals once again, though.
So here I am in Charlottetown, PEI at the AUCTC Conference (Atlantic Universities and Colleges Technical Conference) and some really interesting things are being presented. The theme this year is "Peer to Pier" (an obvious play on words where we're actually on an island). I attended the "Institutional Web" Birds of a Feather session yesterday afternoon and the discussion therein centered around Content Management Systems - open source vs commercial, what other institutions are using, why - etc.
Last night was the BBQ and Geek Meet - and they actually ran out of beer! Imagine - only supplying 3 flats of beer to an event of around 150 tech people (mostly guys). Oops! Anyway - more was delivered post haste so all was not lost. (the riots were avoided).
Today's keynote was by Nora Young of the CBC, the topic being "Pub Night 2.0: Social Software, Community-Building, and Education". An overview of social media, its challenges and possibilities in a higher-ed situation.
Ideas are percolating even as I sit here writing this entry. Leveraging use of Facebook maybe or Twitter, etc. to deliver timely, relevant information to those who are already using these applications. Interesting.
More to come.
